The Samuel Palmer is a charming 15th Century English pub hidden away in the picturesque village of Shoreham, just outside Sevenoaks, with direct train access from London.
Our Samuel Palmer restaurant holds 2 AA Rosettes since July 2023. With our current Head Chef, Kieran Farquhar, our seasonal menu is freshly prepared on the premises with produce from local suppliers. Many of our ales are locally brewed and our wines are individually chosen to compliment our dishes. Some hail from our own vineyard and sister business, The Mount Vineyard, where we have ten acres under vine, producing award-winning still and sparkling wines.

The Samuel Palmer is a dog-friendly pub…. BUT ONLY IN DESIGNATED AREAS
Dogs are allowed in the Main Bar Area of the pub and on our outside terraces. Please note that only the bar menu is available to guests in these areas.
Dogs are NOT permitted in the main Dining room or the Private Function room.
If you are staying with us overnight, please be advised that Dogs are NOT permitted in any of our accommodation and rooms.
Dine with us
We serve food seven days a week. You can dine with us either in our Bar Area which includes a menu of classic pub dishes and delicious Small and Large Plates or you can dine in our Restaurant which in addition also includes our Discovery Menu.
We serve Sunday lunch throughout the pub in both our Bar and Restaurant.

You will only be able to book for up to 6 guests online – for larger enquiries please call us directly to check availability.
Prior to making a reservation please check service times to know what menus are operating on the days you are booking.
Dogs are not permitted in the Restaurant.
Credit Card guarantees will be requested for all bookings with £10 per person as the no show penalty. No money will be taken from the card unless you fail to show, drop numbers or cancel on the day.

Samuel Palmer
Samuel Palmer (1805-1881) was a British landscape painter and key figure in Romanticism in Britain. Little appreciated in his lifetime, Palmer produced visionary pastoral paintings and is now hailed as a precursor of Modernism in the 20th Century.
Palmer lived in Shoreham in a run-down cottage, ‘Rat Abbey’, between 1826 and 1835, where he created many of his most celebrated paintings, depicting the area as a mysterious paradise. Palmer is now indelibly linked to the village of Shoreham – his ‘Valley of Vision’ – and we are proud to showcase prints of his works throughout the pub.
